Statment of Practice
Experienced in both state and federal courts, Richard Jacobson has argued in the California Courts of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also held the status of Amicus Curiae with the California Supreme Court. Richard has demonstrated trial success prevailing in cases involving personal injury, construction, products liability, premises liability, public entities, and employment discrimination/wrongful termination in federal and state courts throughout northern California.
Richard has an impeccable jury trial record with over 40 jury trials under his belt. A sample of his litigation successes include obtaining a defense verdict on behalf of FedEx in a rear-end motor vehicle collision (McElyea v. FedEx Freight West, Inc.); a notable trial verdict and published appeal on a products liability action involving whether a household cleanser’s label warnings were a design defect under the risk/benefit test. (Hanson v. Sunnyside Products Inc. 55 Cal.App.4th 1497); and a successful defense trial verdict on behalf of a subcontractor in an action arising from a two cross-median motor vehicle accident which claimed the lives two individuals and injured several others. (Schlicker v. Rodriguez, et al).
Richard also boasts multiple successful settlements including a $5 million dollar settlement on behalf of an injured Plaintiff in a motorcycle/tractor-trailer intersection accident.
Richard is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and regularly sits as judge pro tem in the settlement conference department of the Sacramento County Superior Court and as a judicial arbitrator and mediator. Richard is a member of the California and Sacramento County Bar Associations, Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California, and the Defense Research Institute.
